Bathmate Hydro Penis Pumps a 'how to' guide.
Posted by Wendy Lee onWhy use a penis pump?
Penis pumps are a proven natural way to help men to more easily achieve erections and improve the firmness of erections over time. Penis Pumps when used regularly improve blood flow to the penis and can increase the width and length of the shaft.
For men with ED or erectile dysfunction, penis pumps are a simple and effective way to assist with erections and when combined with other effective products such as EDOil and a cock ring can help men to regain sexual function and confidence.
Health Conditions
ED is often a result of diabetes, heart disease or high blood pressure, please seek medical advice before embarking on a penis pump regime. It is likely that you will be given the go-ahead as many men with these conditions use penis pumps, however a cautionary approach is recommended.
What is an erection?
During arousal, hormones are released from the brain and direct blood to head straight for the penis, filling the erectile tissue with blood, resulting in an erection.
The penis is made up of 3 chambers –the 2 larger Corpora Cavernosa chambers of erectile tissue and the smaller Corpus Spongiosum. Blood fills the vessels in the erectile tissue to capacity and determines erection size.
How does a penis pump help my erection?
Through regular use of a penis pump, which creates a vacuum and forces blood into the erectile tissue, the amount of blood the vessels can hold is increased over time. A hydro pump creates vacuum pressure using compression of water, a regular penis pump uses compression of air. This results in an increase in penis width and/or length and increases the firmness of erections and for many men their ability to more easily achieve an erection. As a result of this regular ‘exercise of the penis’ some men find their sexual stamina is improved and they recover more quickly to be able to go again!
Some men notice an increase in length of between 1cm and 7cm in length and a 30% increase in girth. Of course immediately after pumping the penis will always be larger than a day after pumping, however regular pumping does have an ongoing positive effect on size for most men.
What is a good brand of hydro pump?
We recommend the Bathmate brand, they are of good quality, come with good information and the company constantly improve their products. All Bathmate products are expensive, however they are a lot more powerful and effective than other styles of penis pumps.
Bathmate also make shower straps and cleaning products for their range. Bathmate make a range of penis pumps including the Hercules, Goliath and Hydromax series. There is very good video about Bathmate hydro pumps we recommend viewing.

Step by Step instructions on using your Bathmate Hydro Penis Pump
Preparation of the area
- Trim the pubic hair where the pump will be on contact with the skin to ensure a good seal around the base of the penis.
- Apply lubricant to the head and base of the penis. Use a small amount of water-based lube, we recommend Probe as it keeps it’s lubricating properties in water.
Hydro Pumping in the shower
- Warm up by standing under the shower for a few minutes.
- Massage the penis to encourage blood flow, a semi erect penis can be easier to insert into the hydro penis pump.
- Fill your hydro penis pump with water, and face the open end of the pump upwards.
- We recommend using the shower strap to support the weight of your hydro pump as it can become heavy and hard to hold. This also allows you to continue showering whilst between pumping, hands free.
- Insert your flaccid or semi-erect penis into the pump and position the pump evenly around the base of the penis whilst the hydro penis pump is facing downwards.
- Compress the rubber boot or gaiter pump to expel water from the pump and force any air out by leaning backwards. Hold back the testicles to ensure a comfortable seal before compressing the pump. This can take a bit of practise to get the correct seal.
- Start pumping slowly up and down the shaft of the penis. You will feel the pressure increase as water is expelled. Repeat this several times until your penis is fully erect. When your penis is fully erect, you should notice an increase in suction which will hold the hydro penis pump onto your body.
- When you feel the pressure reducing simply compress the pump again. Repeat this process no more than 20 minutes.
- You can complete your washing in the shower with the pump in the pressurised position if you have a shower strap.
- To remove the pump, depress the valve on the end of the pump, as this will reduce the suction.
Hydro Pumping in the bath:
- Fill a warm bath to waist height when seated. A penis pump is always more effective if the genital area is warm and softened, so spend 5 minutes warming up in the bath.
- Massage the penis to encourage blood flow to the penis, a semi erect penis can be easier to insert into the hydro penis pump.
- Fill your hydro penis pump with bath water to displace all the air, tilting upwards to ensure all air is removed.
- Insert your flaccid or semi erect penis into the hydro penis pump and position the pump around the base of the penis, holding back the testicles to ensure a comfortable seal before compressing the pump.
- Carefully and slowly compress the pump until you become more practised and confident, as pumping too vigorously or for too long can burst blood vessels. Full compression of the hydro penis pump will force the water out of the pump and a vacuum chamber is created. The pressure of the vacuum forces blood into the blood vessels and increases the size of the penis tissue.
- Repeat the compression process –moving the pump up and down the shaft of the penis until you feel the suction of the device take hold. When you feel the pressure reducing simple compress the pump again. Repeat this process for 15 minutes and no more than 20 minutes.
- You can complete your washing in the bath with the pump in the pressurised position.
- To remove the pump, depress the valve on the end of the pump, as this will reduce the suction.
- Recommended frequency for best results for beginners is 15 minutes of pumping 3 times per week on alternate days.
FAQ’s and trouble shooting
The hydro pump is heavy and tiring to hold while I am in the shower, what are the options?
We recommend using a shower strap in the shower as this supports the weight of the full hydro pump and frees up your hands.
Can I have sex right after pumping?
We do not recommend this as pumping can sensitise the penis. You should find that this hyper-sensitivity reduces over time if you use it frequently and as your penis adjusts to the pumping. You penis will be at it’s largest immediately after pumping, however some men find intercourse painful so I is better to wait 3-4 hours after pumping.
My Bathmate moves around at the base and I can’t seem to get a good pressure.
Make sure the pubic area is trimmed and you have a good seal at the base. Also a semi erect penis is easier to create a seal around.
Should it be painful or uncomfortable to use the hydro pump?
No it should not be either of those things, although the sensation is unusual to start with. Slow down the rate at which you are pumping and pump for shorter periods, you may need to leave longer between pumping days. If you pump too hard or too long you can burst blood vessels. You can increase speed and length of time as you become more accustomed to your hydro pump.
I am not getting much of an erection when using the hydro pump and when I do it doesn’t last.
The hydro pump may not be sealing correctly resulting in a vacuum leak. Check that your have trimmed your pubic hair sufficiently, apply lubricant to the base of the penis and at the pump has sufficient water in it before you start pumping. Check that the top valve is clear and reread the instructions..
What materials is the Bathmate made from? I have sensitive skin.
All Bathmate Hydro pump products are manufactured from phthalate free, skin-safe and medical grade materials, and each range has undergone a custom designed dermatological testing study undertaken by a world renowned specialist Clinic. Aspen Clinical Research have conclusively passed our Hydropumps as clinically proven to be safe for use on the genital area.
Cleaning Instructions
Wash your hydro pump in hot soapy water and rinse off the soap. Rinse your penis pump upside down with the valve open and be careful to rinse any soap or pubic hair from the valve. Dry thoroughly and store away from direct sunlight.
