Posted by D.VICE Sexpert onOften when I give a guy a blow job, there is no discussion about safe sex, is it safe?
Question:
If I give guys oral stimulation, how safe is this? Often I find myself giving a guy that I’ve met that night a blow job and there’s no discussion of safe sex, is this safe?

OK well fellatio is kind of regarded as kind of medium risk, but if you do have any sores or cuts in your mouth such as bleeding gums, then it’s high risk, and even if a guy doesn’t ejaculate in your mouth there is going to be pre-cum which comes out of the penis before he actually ejaculates.
And potentially if you’re going to ingest that, and he does have an STI, that can transmit into your bloodstream or you can absorb it into the mucous membranes in your mouth.
So the safest way is to use a condom for casual fellatio, definitely using flavoured condoms can make it a little more appealing, and also it kind of cuts down whether you need to decide to spit or swallow, so that could be good too.
So what is actually high risk in terms of sexual activity?
So any sex that involves potential contact with blood, vaginal juices or semen, and vaginal and anal penetration without condoms is definitely high risk, and fellatio without a condom if there are cuts in the mouth. Also cunnilingus if there are cuts in the mouth, and rimming if there are cuts in the mouth as well, and basically any activity that involves exchange in blood, and that’s in terms of BDSM practice where there might be cutting or use of needles, that kind of thing.
