D.VICE Sex Q & A. How often do most women masturbate?
Posted by D.VICE Sexpert onI often have to have a quickie with myself at work, is this normal?
Question:
How often do most women masturbate? I often get really, really horny at work and I’ve got to whip to the loo for a quickie with myself. I sometimes wonder if anyone else is doing it.
D.VICE Sexpert Answers:
OK, that’s a good question. I think that a lot more women masturbate than admit that they do. It’s much more accepted in our culture that men masturbate, and we all kind of tend to think it’s totally natural for guys to masturbate and many will do it at least once a day, if not a few times a day.
That’s just of a part of male culture, but women are still not encouraged to masturbate within our society and it’s interesting because how people become sexually empowered, how you actually get to know yourself sexually and then be able to communicate that to your partner is actually through self-pleasure.
Having a sexual relationship with yourself can be liberating. Also the great thing about masturbation is that it naturally keeps your libido really heightened and people who tend to have long term active sexual relationships where the whole sexual spark doesn’t fade, tend to be people who actually masturbate regularly.
The idea that once you get into a relationship you stop masturbating is statistically very true for women. Women who may have masturbated before they got married or in a long term relationship, suddenly stop when they have a partner and that’s the whole kind of understanding about sexual responsibility.
Really it’s like “Ok, well I don’t need to masturbate anymore because I’ve got my partner and I’m going to have sex with them” I guess that people think “Oh well, that’s kind of enough” but actually if you are continuing a sexual relationship with yourself it means that you’re discovering new things as well, and also sometimes you do feel really aroused at work and what better way to relieve the boredom of the 9-5 than popping into the loo?
So I think actually the Lipstick vibrator- the Tango is perfect for that purpose and I’ve heard some great stories about people in traffic jams having a little vibrator in their glove box...not that I’m necessarily encouraging that for driving safety!
I think that you are likely to find that there are other women doing it and hopefully at some stage it’s going to become much more acceptable within our society for women to masturbate and for us to actually openly talk about it and for people not to look at you as if you’re some kind of total sexual pervert and to actually be able to say yes I do, and how fantastic!”
